ABUJA-THE leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said that those calling for the disintegration of the country would not succeed as there were enough gains to stay as one entity.
NLC also urged all Nigerians to join hands with the leadership of the country to find solutions to the current recession in the nation that had brought untold hardship to the people.
National President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, who stated these in his 56th Independence Anniversary message in Abuja yesterday, told Nigerians to keep faith that the nation would come out of the present challenges confronting it.
The statement read: "On the occasion of the 56th anniversary of Nigeria's independence, on behalf of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, I join the leadership of our nation in various fields to salute the Nigerian spirit, I salute the extraordinary resilience and patriotism of the average Nigerian.
''When all seems down and out, we always find ways of overcoming our adversaries. As we mark this year's anniversary in the midst of a recessionary economy, and amidst massive suffering and unprecedented challenges in the polity, we must keep faith, that we will overcome our difficulties and challenges, and ultimately triumph over our current socio-economic and political challenges.
"On behalf of Organised labour, I want to use this occasion of our National Independence day to call on the political leadership of our country -from national to states and local government levels, that they need to do more to show selfless commitment to building a strong and sustainable country in which our current and future generations will be proud of.
"As the biggest black nation on earth, we collectively owe it as a duty to the black race, both in the continent and in the diaspora, to build a united and prosperous nation."
